1. Who we are

Gaia is built and operated by Martin Lepage (Quebec, Canada), an independent developer.

We are a one-person operation. There is no support desk. Email reaches the person who wrote the code.

2. The short version

3. What Gaia collects

Gaia asks you for a date of birth. It optionally asks for a birth place (free text you type yourself) and a birth hour. That is the entire set of personal information the app solicits.

We want to be precise about what this is and is not:

4. What stays on your phone and never leaves it

Saved charts are stored locally on your device only, in the app's own storage. A saved chart can include a birth date, a birth place, a birth hour, plus a label you choose (for example “Me” or “Marie”) and any notes you write.

The label and the notes are never transmitted anywhere. They are not sent to our servers, not sent to Anthropic, and not sent to anyone else. They exist only in the app on your phone.

You can erase all of it at any time: open Settings, go to “Your data”, and tap “Clear all saved charts”. That is an immediate, complete deletion of the on-device data. Uninstalling the app also removes it.

5. What leaves your device — exactly

This is the part that matters, so here it is endpoint by endpoint. Gaia talks to one server we operate (the “Gaia backend”). Some of what reaches that server is then passed to Anthropic.

What you do in the appWhat is sent to the Gaia backendIs any of it sent on to Anthropic?
Open the home screen (daily card)Your device's local hour, and your language (EN/FR). No birth data.No
Tap the daily “weave” reading on the home screenYour local hour and your language. No birth data.Yes — but only the hour and language. No birth data reaches Anthropic on this path.
Open a chart's result screenYour birth date and birth hourNo
Request a GaiascopeYour birth date and your local hourNo. Our server converts the birth date into a calendar sign (for example “Thaw-Bearer”) and sends only the sign name to Anthropic. Your birth date itself does not reach Anthropic on this path.
Request a Deep ReadingYour birth date, your birth place (the text you typed), your hemisphere, your school-cutoff dates if set, and the symbolic values Gaia derived from them (sign, elements, seasons, cohort, festival proximity, weather-body imprint)YES. This is the one that matters. Your birth date, your hemisphere, and your typed birth place are placed directly into the prompt sent to Anthropic's AI model.
Generate a share card imageThe same chart values as aboveNo. The image is drawn on our server and returned to you. No AI model is involved.

Plainly: if you request a Deep Reading, your date of birth and the place you typed are disclosed to Anthropic PBC in the United States. No other feature does this.

Readings about other people

Gaia lets you save charts for other people — that is what the label field is for. If you create a chart for someone else and then request a Deep Reading for it, that person's birth date and birth place are sent to Anthropic, exactly as described above.

Only enter another person's birth information if you have their permission to do so. Do not enter a child's birth information without the consent of their parent or guardian. We have no way of knowing whose birth date you typed, so this responsibility is genuinely yours.

Share cards

If you generate a share card, the image contains your birth date, printed on the card. That is by design — it is a chart. If you post that image to social media, you are publishing your date of birth to whoever can see it. Gaia does not post anything on your behalf; sharing is always an action you take. Just know what is on the card before you send it.

6. Why we collect it (legal bases)

We use your birth information for exactly one thing: to compute and generate the reading you asked for. Nothing else. Not profiling for advertising, not personalisation of ads, not analytics, not resale. There is no secondary use, because there is no second business.

Where the GDPR applies (EEA/UK users), our legal basis is:

Where Quebec's Law 25 applies, we rely on your consent for the purposes stated above, which are the only purposes for which the information is used.

7. Retention — how long we keep things

We keep nothing. Gaia's backend has no database. It does not write your birth date to disk. Every request is computed in memory and the result is returned to you. When the request ends, the data is gone from our side.

Server logs. Like any web service, our server records that a request happened — timestamp, HTTP status, response time, and the network address of the request. We do not put your birth date or your birth place into our request URLs, so they do not appear in these logs. Operational logs are retained by our hosting provider for 30 days and are then deleted. They are used only to keep the service running and secure.

Anthropic. Anthropic processes the Deep Reading request on our behalf, as our processor. Anthropic determines how long it retains the inputs and outputs of that request, and how it may use them, under its own privacy policy — see anthropic.com/legal/privacy for its current retention and processing practices. We do not control that window and do not restate a specific figure here.

On your phone: your saved charts stay until you delete them. We have no ability to reach them.

8. Who we share data with (sub-processors)

The complete list. There is nothing else.

WhoWhereWhat they getWhy
Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Logging)Belgium (europe-west1)Hosts the Gaia backend; processes the requests described in §5 in memoryHosting
Anthropic PBCUnited StatesOnly for a Deep Reading: your birth date, hemisphere, and typed birth place, inside the promptGenerating the reading text

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies. There are none in this app.

Apple and Google receive download and (if applicable) purchase information as the app's distributors, under their own privacy policies. That is outside our control and is true of every app on both stores.

9. International transfers

Our server runs in Belgium (Google Cloud, europe-west1). Anthropic processes Deep Reading requests in the United States. If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Canada, requesting a Deep Reading therefore involves a transfer of your birth data to the United States.

That transfer rests on your explicit consent. We ask you to confirm, before your first Deep Reading, that you agree to send your birth data to our AI provider in the United States. You can decline and still use the rest of the app. This is the basis for the transfer (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 49(1)(a)).

If you would rather your birth data never leave the region you are in, do not request a Deep Reading. Every other feature of Gaia — your chart, your library, the calendar signs, the elements, the houses — works without it.

10. AI-generated content

The daily weave, the Gaiascope, and the Deep Reading are generated by an AI language model (Anthropic's Claude). They are not written by a person, and they are not reviewed by a person before you see them.

Gaia offers recognition, not prediction. It does not tell your future, it does not diagnose anything, and it does not give medical, legal, or financial advice. The model is instructed never to do so. AI models can nonetheless produce text that is wrong, strange, or inappropriate. If you see output that is offensive or harmful, please report it from within the app, or email ml@pharos-ai.ca.

11. Children

Gaia is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Because Gaia asks for a date of birth, we ask you to confirm your age before you use the chart feature. In the EEA, the minimum age is 16 unless your country sets a lower one (13 to 16). In Quebec, if you are under 14, a parent or guardian must consent.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact ml@pharos-ai.ca. Since we store nothing on our servers, deletion in practice means clearing the app's data on the device (Settings → “Your data” → “Clear all saved charts”) — and we will act on any request that involves our systems.

12. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, and port your personal information, to withdraw consent, and to object to or restrict processing. Under Quebec's Law 25 you also have the right to de-indexing and the right to be informed of automated processing.

Practically, in Gaia most of these are immediate and in your own hands:

For anything that touches our systems — including a request to purge our operational logs — email ml@pharos-ai.ca. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are unsatisfied, you may complain to your data protection authority: the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (Quebec), the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (Canada), or your national supervisory authority (EEA/UK).

13. Security

All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. The connection to Anthropic is likewise encrypted. Our server holds no database and stores no user data at rest, which is the strongest security property we can offer: there is no store of birth dates to breach.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change what data leaves your device or who receives it, we will update this policy and its effective date, and — for any material change — surface a notice in the app before the change takes effect.
